Argus Fire helping to support Afeba’s project

In February 2024, Afeba Williams presented to the board of directors an ambitious scheme that he has been planning for some time back in Jamaica, where he was born.

Afeba joined Argus in 2018 after being spotted working as a painter/pipe fitters mate, and he expressed an interest in learning more about the fire protection industry so we decided to invest in Afeba by giving him the necessary training and support to start his journey.

This journey has seen Afeba progress from a pipe fitters mate, to fitter, to a supervisor, to a site manager, and upto his current role within the business; which is a project engineer.

Afeba has always had a drive to help the community back in Jamaica in the town where he was born, and as you can see from the extract below from his business plan; where he goes into more detail about the project.

Top Spot’s mission is to be a Hub for The People, specifically the people where I’m from in Spanish Town Jamaica.

Being born and bred in Jamaica but raised in the UK from the age of 3. This has given me the best of both Island and City life. It has also given me a unique perspective as to what I would be missing had I lived in either place solely. Growing up, this was highlighted when I was visiting the Caribbean where I didn’t have my video games, access to my local sports centre or my beloved burger and chips.

As I’ve grown older, I treasure all the aspects of the Jamaican lifestyle that the UK can’t compete with, such as the impact of community, picking fresh fruit from the trees, being outside and enjoying nature into the evening.

These experiences have all led me on my mission to build a Hub for my community In Spanish Town Jamaica, honoring aspects of both of my experiences.

TopSpot is set to create a space for social interaction for all ages, by seamlessly integrating the world of video games, Jamaican and American-infused food, refreshing drinks, live sports, and a welcoming communal space, promising to be a dynamic hub, made for the people.

Following on from Afeba’s presentation, the board of directors were delighted to support his ambitious project with a long-term financial sponsorship, and we are pleased to share with you some of the early works in the photographs below:

The trip to Jamaica was successful. I was able to open three major components: the store, gaming room, and bar.

Members of the community explained there isn’t any development apart from housing, any enjoyment would be a cab journey into the city. The children would say “Theres nothing to do” and once they knew of a gaming room they turned up every day.

It was rewarding seeing the effect it had on the locals. People smiling, laughing, and accepting what we’ve opened.

They’ve recently cleared acres of land to begin a housing scheme opposite the compound. So, the timing was perfect! Construction starts in July.

I would like to thank Argus for supporting my project, I’ll always appreciate it.
