Deluge fire suppression systems

A deluge fire suppression system is a specialized type of firefighting system designed to rapidly release large volumes of water or other firefighting agents over a wide area in response to a fire. It is commonly used in high-hazard environments such as chemical plants, power plants, aircraft hangars, and offshore drilling platforms, where rapid fire control is critical to prevent catastrophic damage.

The fundamental difference between a deluge type system and standard sprinkler system is that the nozzles are open ended, with no temperature rated bulb, and therfore all nozzles downstream of the contral valve will discharge water simultaneously. This can be actuated either electrically or pneumatically.

Deluge systems are highly effective for controlling and suppressing large fires in high-risk environments where traditional sprinkler systems may not provide adequate protection. They offer rapid response capabilities and can deliver a substantial amount of water or firefighting agent to quickly smother flames and prevent the fire from spreading.

Additionally, deluge systems can be customised with different types of nozzles and firefighting agents to suit the specific hazards and requirements of the protected area.
