Frog Island MBT Fire Improvement Works
Frog Island in Rainham handles household waste and recyclable materials mainly from Barking & Dagenham and Havering. Here, residual waste undergoes Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) which helps further separate materials for recycling and produces Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) that can be used to replace fossil fuels in the generation of energy.
The site has the capacity to process 180,000 tonnes of waste a year across three lines.
Following a significant fire in 2014, the site was required to significantly overhaul its fixed fire fighting and detection infrastructure.
Following the successful completion of the same FIW works at its sister facility, Jenkins Lane, Argus Fire were appointed to design, supply, install and commission the project as the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor under CDM.
